the real obvious answer would be jay-z. his iconic status is legendaary and kanyes isnt. controversy doesnt make you influential and jay has had to help kanye out of a few incidents like with the snatching the mic from taylor swift. more people cared bout what jay tought boout kanye doing it then they cared bout kanye doing it. liquor, clothes. movies, politics, etc jay is that dude and one of the most influential people in hip hop and hasnt faded one bit. as for rap goes sure jay is a better raapper as for pop goes kanye barely wins because jaay has to bif of a discography to even compare kanyes to yet. dont think jus cuz u can see the puppet more that the puppeteer isnt more powerful

I think there is a yes/no aspect to this.

In todays world, the mainstream music scene, fashion, forward moving music, and celebrity, Kanye is definitely more influential, that;s is how I have began to see Kanye, as a celebrity, I mean, I know they're both technically celebrities, but Kanye imo has begun to be defined by his clothes, cars, lifestyle more so than his music, he's always topping the charts, and is always trying new things with his songs, and really cracking the mainstream. However, Jay has an everlasting status as one of the most talented, respected and revered artists in hip hop, and music in general, to hip hop fans and artists especially, I think Jay remains on a higher pedestal than Kanye.
